Finding Your Light Again: A Note from Stephanie

By Stephanie Kahn

You’re probably here because you’ve been scrolling through therapist profiles, trying to find the one that feels right. Maybe you’re wondering if therapy is really for you. You might even be telling yourself, “My life is good — why do I feel this way?” or “Other people have it worse; I should be able to handle this.” But even strong, capable, loving people can struggle. You can be grateful for your life and still feel anxious, overwhelmed, or lost after a painful experience. You can be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone in your emotions. Therapy isn’t about being “broken” — it’s about giving yourself permission to heal.

Hi, I’m Stephanie, a psychotherapist with Empowerment Within, and I’m so glad you’re here.

How I Found My Way Here:
When I was little, I used to play “counselor.” I’d set up a desk in my room and “listen” to my stuffed animals as they shared their pretend worries. It sounds funny now, but even then, I loved creating a space where others could be seen and cared for. Before becoming a therapist, I spent over a decade as a social worker, supporting individuals and families facing incredibly difficult situations — complex medical needs, end-of-life care, grief, and major life transitions. I witnessed the quiet strength that people find in the hardest moments, and I learned how powerful it is to have someone truly listen. Over time, I realized that what I loved most wasn’t fixing people’s problems — it was helping them rediscover their own resilience and hope. That realization led me straight into the world of therapy.
Who I Work With
I’m passionate about walking alongside individuals who are:

  • Navigating perinatal and postpartum challenges — the emotional shifts, identity changes, and anxiety that can follow pregnancy and birth.
  • Experiencing grief and loss, whether of a loved one, a relationship, or a sense of self.
  • Living with anxiety, trauma, or overwhelm, where your mind never seems to rest and peace feels out of reach.
  • Facing life transitions that leave you uncertain about who you are or where you’re headed.

My goal isn’t to “fix” you. It’s to help you make sense of your story, rebuild trust in yourself, and reconnect with your inner strength — the part of you that’s still there, even beneath the pain.

What It’s Like to Sit in My Office

Therapy with me is warm, and safe. You don’t need to have the perfect words or know where to start. Sometimes we’ll unpack the hard stuff; other times we’ll focus on grounding techniques, mindfulness, or simply learning how to breathe again when life feels heavy.
My approach blends compassionate listening, CBT and DBT-informed strategies, and genuine connection. You can expect a calm space, and someone who truly sees you. Together, we’ll take small steps toward healing — one conversation, one breath, one act of self-kindness at a time.

A Final Thought

If you’ve made it here, something inside you already knows it’s time for change. Whether you’re grieving, anxious, adjusting to motherhood, or simply trying to feel like yourself again — there is space for you here. You don’t have to carry everything alone.
I’m here to support you as you rediscover your peace, your strength, and your light — the Empowerment Within that’s always been yours.
